I’m Tom Sanderson, a private tutor based in Milton Keynes. I specialise in 11+ and Grammar School preparation, GCSE Maths and English, and tailored support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those educated outside school (EOTAS). I’ve been tutoring for nearly ten years, and since starting my own tutoring company in 2020, I’ve helped over 100 students build the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
My story
My path into tutoring started in care work, where I supported autistic adults. It was there that I discovered how much I enjoyed helping people access further education, watching someone gain the confidence to take the next step in their learning was genuinely rewarding, and it’s what led me to move into tutoring in 2017.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I lost a lot of the work I’d built up. Rather than step away from tutoring, I used it as a turning point: in May 2020, I started my own tutoring company. Since then, I’ve worked with over 100 students across Milton Keynes and beyond, and I support as many students and families as I can on the road to grammar school, from the first practice paper to test day.
Qualifications & safeguarding
- BSc in Psychology, which underpins my Positive Psychology approach to teaching
- Nearly ten years’ tutoring experience
- Enhanced DBS check
- Experience preparing students for both the CEM and GL 11+ exam formats, with particular familiarity with GL
My teaching philosophy
I use Positive Psychology to go beyond conventional teaching, building the skills and confidence students need rather than just drilling exam content. Mistakes are treated as part of learning here, not something to fear, and every student goes at their own pace. My goal is always the same: helping your child grow in confidence, ability, and results.
Who I work with
I work with children aged 7-16, both online and in person around Milton Keynes, covering 11+ and Grammar School preparation, GCSE Maths and English, and SEN and EOTAS support. Sessions start at £45, and the first conversation is always free, with no obligation.
